School of Construction Machinery (SCM) of Chang'an university was officially established in 2000 by merging the former “Department of Road Machinery and Mechanical Department of Xi'an Highway University”, “Department of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering of Northwestern College of Architectural Engineering” and “Xi'an Road Construction Machinery Testing Center of Ministry of Communications”, which were founded in 1952. SCM has been focusing on cultivating of professional and technical talents and scientific research in the following areas: design, manufacture and intelligent control of construction machinery, and mechanization, maintenance and management of expressway construction. SCM possesses a doctoral discipline of mechanical engineering which is a key constructive discipline of the state “211 Project”, and has a post-doctoral program of mechanical engineering.
SCM is authorized to confer doctor and master degrees for one first-class discipline of mechanical engineering, covering four second-class disciplines: mechanical manufacturing and automation, mechanical design and theory, mechanical and electronic engineering and construction machinery. There are four majors for undergraduate: mechanical and electronic engineering, mechanical manufacturing and automation, mechanical engineering, and industrial design, in which the first two majors are national characteristic specialties. There are seven majors: construction machinery, building machinery, mechanical and electronic engineering, mechanical manufacturing and automation, transportation construction and equipment, highway construction mechanization and management, and industrial design. SCM has a total of185staffsincluding more than 90 professors/associate professors, in which 27 are professors and 10 are doctoral supervisors. Currently there aremore than2,000undergraduates, and645 master and Ph.Dstudents. In recent years, the employment rate is always higher than 95%.
SCM possesses “National Engineering Laboratory of Highway Maintenance Equipment”, “State virtual-simulation experiment-teaching center for construction machinery”, “Key Laboratory of Road Construction Technology and Equipment, Ministry of Education”, “Ministry-of-Education Engineering Research Center of Expressway Construction & Maintenance Equipment and Technology”, “Shaanxi Key Laboratory of Expressway Construction Machinery”, “Shaanxi Teaching Demonstration Center of Mechanical Experiment”, and “Xi'an Road Construction Machinery Testing Center of Ministry of Communications”. SCM is the largest teaching-research-testing base in the field of construction machinery in China, and has the teaching and researching devices worth over 40 million RMB, laboratories of total12,375m2and a construction-machinery experimental base of 420 mu (about 667m2/mu).
SCM adheres to industry-university-research cooperation, specially the technique cooperation with enterprises. SCM has presided more than 300 research projects including National 973 Program, National 863 Program, National Science-Technology Supported Plan, National Natural Science Found, provincial/ministerial-class projects, and projects sponsored by enterprises. SCM won many outstanding awards including “National Science and Technology Progress Award”(3projects) and provincial/ministerial science and technology progress award(20projects). SCM has presided over 100 teaching-research projects including national planning projects, and won more than 20 provincial teaching achievement awards. Recently, the average annual research funding is over 15 millionRMB.
SCM has a good reputation in talent cultivating, scientific research and social services. In a new stage, SCM will adhere to connotation development and harmonious development, and continuously improve teaching and researching level and internationalcooperation.
